Harimau Muda go down to Thailand in Under-19 quadr

PETALING JAYA: Harimau Muda are out of the race for a top finish in the invitational Under-19 quadrangular football tournament in Hanoi after going down 1-3 to fancied Thailand yesterday.

The Malaysians, who were without seven regulars because of injuries, stunned the Thais with the opening goal through Thamil Arasu in the first minute.

Coach K. Rajagopal said the boys did well to hold on to the lead and only conceded the equaliser off a penalty in the 65th minute.

“The Thais have a squad at full strength and it was not easy to contain them.

“The turning point for us was conceding the penalty,” he said.

Malaysia drew 1-1 against Vietnam in the opening match on Monday.

They will wrap up their round-robin fixtures against Laos on Friday.

In another match, Laos were beaten 1-4 by Vietnam yesterday.
