Tottenham Hotspur have long been linked with a move for a Russian forward, but the name on most people's lips was Zenit St Petersburg's Andrei Arshavin.

With the much speculated departure of Dimitar Berbatov, it was clear that Spurs' transfer policy may have switched to recruiting more of an out-and-out striker, rather than a player that would link the midfield with the attack.

Both players hit the headlines over the summer with Russia's performances in the European Championship. Pavyluchenko, 26, has been capped 22 times by his country and has netted on nine occasions.

His goals to games ratio for Spartak Moscow has been sound, scoring at least one goal every two games in domestic competitions in Russia.

A statement from the club's official website read: "We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Spartak Moscow for the transfer of Roman Pavlyuchenko to the Club."

Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly keen to thrash out the deal before the weekend so that Pavyluchenko would be registered in time to play in the London derby on Sunday against Chelsea..

Morientes Bound For Spurs?

Valencia striker Fernando Morientes could make a return to the English Premier League as Tottenham Hotspurs boss, Juande Ramos looks for a proven goalscorer to replace Dimitar Berbatov.

Former Spanish international striker Fernando Morientes could see out his playing career in England if Juande Ramos’ Tottenham Hotspurs make a move for him.

According to the Daily Star, Ramos is interested in bringing the former Real Madrid and Liverpool striker to White Hart Lane to bolster the team’s attacking line after losing Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United and failing to recruit a replacement.

El Moro has already resigned himself to being a bench player this season for Valencia and has even admitted that he will not be staying at the Mestalla beyond this campaign.

His current contract with Los Ché finishes on the 30th of July next year but he will be 33 years old by then and question will be raised as to how long more he can continue playing at the top level and how suitable of a replacement he will be for Berbatov.

His previous stint in the Premiership at Liverpool was a huge disappointment. He played 60 games in all competitions but tallied only 12 goals. Morientes was linked to Turkish giants Galatasaray this summer but he did not deem the club’s offer substantial enough.
